Berry
Here
are two definitions:
In
PlantID.net, we’ll think of berries as small fruits that have “berry” in their
name, plus other fruits that sort of look like them. These include
California Blackberry (©KM) |
Blueberry (SSM) |
Wild Strawberry (©FRDM) |
Snowberry (ZAB) |
Baneberry (KM) |
Bunch Berry (KM) |
California Juniper (KM) |
Honeysuckle (©NK) |
We
don’t include bigger fruits like cherries, prunes and apples.
The
botanical definition of berries is different.
For botanists, a berry is a fleshy fruit produced from a single
ovary. Under this definition, oranges,
watermelon, and avocados are berries, and strawberries are not. While this is technically interesting, we’ll
use the everyday meaning of berry on this site.
